ポールが作詞作曲しリードボーカルもポールが担当。
ビートルズで最も有名な曲ともいえる名曲であり、イントロのピアノの力強いようで物悲しい音色は、何度聞いても震えるように心に突き刺さり、この曲を強烈に印象付ける。
”Let it be”の訳はさまざまであるが「あるがままに」という訳が一般的である。

「Norwegian wood」はノルウェー産の松の木で作られたウッド調の部屋をあらわしていて、これを「ノルウェーの森」と表現しているとされる。
最後の「I lit a fire」については「明かりをつける」「暖炉に火をつける」などと訳されることが多いが、直訳は「火をつける」という意味。
実際にポールは、男を風呂場で寝かせたことに対する復讐でその場所を燃やしてしまうということにしたと言っているので、そのようにとらえた場合は少し狂気性も感じる内容となる。
